At a glance

GPT Image 2 is not free on GetGPTImage, but trying it costs little: signing up with email is free, the prompt library is free to copy, and a 1K image costs 16 credits, about $0.14 to $0.20. Failed generations and blocked prompts return their credits. OpenAI's ChatGPT app also includes image generation, with limits that depend on the plan.

What “free” means on GetGPTImage

The account is free; images are not. Every generation is paid with credits from a one-time pack or a monthly plan, and new accounts start with none. We say so plainly because many “free” image sites only reveal their limits after you sign up.

What you get for the price: all three GPT Image models, sizes up to 4K, no watermark added by GetGPTImage, a private history of your images, and your credits back whenever a generation fails.

Other ways to use GPT Image 2 for free

If you only need a few pictures now and then, OpenAI's own ChatGPT app may cost you nothing: OpenAI has offered image generation to ChatGPT users, with limits that depend on the plan and that change over time. Check OpenAI's current plans for the details.

The API is not free: OpenAI bills image generation by tokens, so developers pay for every image they create in code.

Why unlimited free image generators are rare

Every GPT Image picture has a real cost: a 1024x1024 image costs about $0.013 upstream at medium quality and $0.053 at high, and larger sizes cost more. Sites that promise unlimited free images often come with queues, low resolution, watermarks or a different model from the one they name.

How to spend fewer credits

A few habits keep the cost of a finished image low:

  • Draft at 1K with GPT Image 2.5 Flare, one image at a time.
  • Start from a library prompt instead of a blank box.
  • Change one thing per attempt so you know what helped.
  • Render at 2K or 4K only once the 1K draft is right.

GPT Image 2 free FAQ

No. New accounts start with no credits. The smallest one-time pack is the cheapest way to try the models, and failed generations return their credits.

Is the GPT Image 2 API free?

No. OpenAI bills API image generation by tokens: $5 per million text input tokens and $30 per million image output tokens at the time of writing.
